Regular Shapes

Shapes shapes shapes. That's sort of what's going on in my head at the moment. Flatland and its shapes. And hierarchy. And typography. This is a nice image I found at The Imagist. It's an installation by the French conceptual artist Daniel Buren. He is famous for working with shapes and stripes with the width of 8,7 cm and according to me, his stuff is pretty amazing.

The Liberated Press issue 2

The second issue of The Liberated Press is now out in stores. "The Liberated Press is a lovingly created free quarterly lo-fi mode of communication that aims to celebrate creativity with a truly independent and rebellious spirit. Inspired by 60’s & 70’s underground counter culture, zines and handmade revolutionary propaganda, our aim is simple; to create a periodical that is subversive, collectible & coveted. A platform for emerging talent, providing space for writers, artists and designers to explore their creativity in print. Computers are used sparingly. We still have the blisters on our hands to prove it".

In october we had an optional project (I didn't do it) that meant we could get published in this issue. A few people from my course got published, which is awesome! This issue is all about Liberty turning 135 years, so the number 135 was the theme for the whole thing.

The Liberated Press is an A1 broadsheet, with a poster one one side and the information or text on the other. It's something similar to what I want to do for my project for ISTD.

Poster for Klubb Musiket

This is a freelance project I've been working on the last few days. It's a poster for two music events arranged by a club in Stockholm called Klubb Musiket. The brief was: Black and red typography on white background, no images. Apparently the logo I maid for the poster was appreciated and will be printed on pins as well which is great.

ISTD and Flatland

The new project we're working on at LCC is for ISTD (International Socielty of Typographic Designers). Typography has been something I've really fallen in love with the last year, because of the many possibiities and the nerdiness - it can be very hard to deal with but the outcome can be so beautiful.

The project is about the novel Flatland: A romance of many dimensions, written in 1884 by Edward A. Abbott. "The story is about a two-dimensional world referred to as Flatland which is occupied by geometric figures, line-segments (females) and regular polygons with various numbers of sides. The narrator is a humble square, a member of the social caste of gentlemen and professionals in a society of geometric figures, who guides us through some of the implications of life in two dimensions. The square has a dream about a visit to a one-dimensional world (Lineland) which is inhabited by "lustrous points." He is then visited by a three-dimensional sphere, which he cannot comprehend until he sees Spaceland for himself." Read the whole book here!

We're supposed to "produce a proposal for a new edition of Flatland that doesn’t necessarily engage with the conventions of ‘the book’ as we understand them, although it may have text matter, pages and a cover – or not. It could be a pamphlet, a chapbook, a poster, a landscape, a happening, a dream, an installation, a text, a sound piece, an animation, a moment."

My idea at the moment is to produce the book by origami / paper folding. Maybe each chapter will be different folded posters. Or the whole book (which is divided in two parts) will be folded in a special way. We'll see. And! We only have to do one chapter and then show how the rest of the book would develop. 4 weeks to go. Excited!

Gran Canaria

It's been a while since I posted something but it's been a long break from LCC and the creative life. Sthlm during christmas was awesome, a lot of working though. London during the last week of 2010 and New Years Eve was awesome as well. And the last week of the christmas break in Gran Canaria with my parents and younger brother was just awesome. The weather was great and the week was very relaxed. Had some great food and some lazy days by the pool and on the beach. Rented a car one day to see the island and it was beautiful. Here are a few photos from the trip.
