London Design Museum

The current exhibition The Brit Insurance Designs Awards at Design Museum is definitely worth going to if you want to see some great design pieces. The award is like "the Oscars of the design world," and showcase the most innovative and forward thinking designs from around the world, spanning seven categories: architecture, fashion, furniture, graphics, interactive, product and transport.

I really liked the "Spun Chair" because of its beautiful design and the small adventure you have when sitting in it. Two other favourites were the "Plumen Lights" and the "In-betweening Clock". LCC was also nominated in the graphics category with our summer show from last year, "Power of 10". Pretty awesome.

Panton Chair by Chris Bosse

Designer Chris Bosse has sliced up and created a new design for the classic Panton Chair from 1968, as part of Re-loved:designer stories at the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney. I think it looks amazing, especially when it's glowing in the dark.

Bosse says “I’ve chosen to represent this shape as slices, similar to an MRI scan in order to make visible its complex 3dimensional geometry. The chair is metaphorically and physically carved out of a sliced box”.

Wallpaper* Magazine Brief

The next project I'm going to do is for one of my favourite magazines, Wallpaper*. On monday we were at Wallpaper's office to get the brief from the magazine's art director Meirion Pritchard. It was really cool to go there and see their office - just across the street from Tate Modern, and Meirion seemed to be really nice. We got a lot of information and were showed some of all great stuff the magazine have done.

The brief is to "produce a campaign that communicates Wallpaper's core values to potential readers". The magazine excists in many forms of media; printed, website, iphone and ipad apps, facebook, twitter etc.

My ISTD Flatland sneak peek

I haven't got my piece of work for the ISTD back from the tutors yet. But here's a sneak peek. Will put the whole thing up here later.

ISTD Formative Crit

Had some photos taken from thursday's ISTD and Flatland book crit. I think there were some really great stuff there. Now we have until May to change our work and do it even better. Here are some photos from our studio and work from three students in the second year (I'm in first):

Omni Magazine

The Flatland and ISTD days are over for this time. I will put up my project here next week, the tutors are assessing it for a couple of days. Just thought I'd put up these two covers of Omni Magazine, a sci-fi publication published between 1978-1995, that I found while doing my research for my target audience. This magazine would have been the perfect one for my posters/chapters to come with as supplements. I wouldn't say I'm a sci-fi fan but these covers from 1979 and 1981 are pretty awesome, and I sure do want see what's inside them.
